Explore MoreJEE Main Chemistry has 25 questions (20 MCQ + 5 Numerical) for a maximum of 100 marks. Chemistry is divided into three branches — Physical, Inorganic, and Organic — each contributing roughly 8–9 questions. Chemistry is widely regarded as the most balanced section in JEE Main, with a mix of theory-based, formula-based, and reaction-based questions.
JEE Main Chemistry is more application-focused than NEET Chemistry. While NEET tests factual recall, JEE Main tests deeper understanding of mechanisms, multi-step problem solving in Physical Chemistry, and the ability to apply Inorganic concepts to unfamiliar situations.

IUPAC naming, isomerism (geometric, optical), crystal field theory, colour and magnetism. 2 questions — pattern is very predictable from PYQs.
Groups 13–18, oxoacids of sulphur, nitrogen family, halogen reactions. 2–3 questions. Mostly factual — NCERT reading gives full marks.
Named reactions (Aldol, Cannizzaro, Clemmensen), nucleophilic addition, acidity order. 2 questions. Mechanism understanding essential.
EMF, Nernst equation, conductance, Faraday's laws. 1–2 questions. Numerical-heavy — practice all standard formula applications.
Amino acids, glucose, DNA/RNA structure, polymer types. 1–2 easy questions — entirely factual from NCERT. Quick marks.
JEE Main Chemistry goes deeper than NEET Chemistry. While NEET tests whether you know a fact, JEE Main tests whether you can apply it. For example, NEET might ask "What is the hybridization of SF6?" — JEE Main might ask "Predict the geometry and compare bond angles of SF4 vs SF6." The syllabus largely overlaps, but JEE Main requires stronger mechanism understanding in Organic and deeper numerical ability in Physical Chemistry.
