NEET Chemistry — Overview

NEET Chemistry has 45 questions (attempt any 45 out of 50) for a maximum of 180 marks. Chemistry is divided into three sections: Physical Chemistry (numerical-based), Inorganic Chemistry (fact-based, directly from NCERT), and Organic Chemistry (mechanism and reaction-based). Each section contributes roughly equally — around 15 questions each.

Chemistry is the most NCERT-friendly subject in NEET. Inorganic Chemistry — covering periodic table, p-block, d-block, and coordination compounds — is almost entirely from NCERT text. Students who read NCERT Inorganic thoroughly and memorize reactions consistently score 55–65 out of 180 from Inorganic alone.

Three-Branch Strategy for NEET Chemistry

Inorganic Chemistry (Units 9–12): This is your easiest scoring opportunity in NEET Chemistry. Read NCERT Inorganic 3–4 times — every reaction, every property, every table. Do not skip anything. Inorganic questions are directly from NCERT text, sometimes word-for-word. Students who master Inorganic consistently score 55–65 marks out of 180 total Chemistry from Inorganic alone.

Organic Chemistry (Units 13–19): Focus on understanding reaction mechanisms — not just memorizing reactions. Once you understand why a reaction happens (inductive effect, resonance, steric factors), you can predict products even for unfamiliar reactions. Biomolecules (Unit 19) is the easiest scoring chapter in all of NEET Chemistry — read it multiple times.

Physical Chemistry (Units 1–8): This requires numerical practice. Do not just read formulas — solve problems daily. Equilibrium, Thermodynamics, and Electrochemistry are the most important Physical Chemistry chapters for NEET. Practice NTA-style single-step and two-step numerical problems.
