What are the important oxoacids of phosphorus? +
H₃PO₂ (hypophosphorous, +1, monobasic), H₃PO₃ (phosphorous, +3, dibasic), H₃PO₄ (phosphoric, +5, tribasic), H₄P₂O₇ (pyrophosphoric, +5). The basicity of phosphorus oxoacids equals the number of P-OH bonds — not total H atoms. H₃PO₂ has two P-H bonds that are non-ionizable. These distinctions are directly tested in JEE Main.
What are interhalogen compounds? +
Interhalogen compounds are formed between two different halogens: XX', XX'₃, XX'₅, XX'₇ (where X is heavier halogen). Examples: ClF, ClF₃, ClF₅, BrF₃, BrF₅, BrF₇, IF₇.
